We are building an ecosystem simulator for social media platforms (SMP) combining users, behaviors, networks, content, and algorithms. In this ecosystem, we unify prior simulation frameworks and present a cohesive picture of social media simulation. We propose a simplified simulation framework and demonstrate how we can model online harms to inform the public and policymakers of the risks from malicious actors.
